Rising damp and penetrating damp are the main causes of internal moisture problems. We provide information below on the main causes and solutions for treating them.

Penetrating Damp

The main reasons for damp ingress in walls above ground floor level above 1.5m high is usually caused by faulty render, porous substrates, blocked down pipes and guttering or faulty flashings. For render and substrate defects we would recommend the removal of damp plaster and re-plastering using a waterproofing additive. We recommend a sikal waterproof render as it has been a damp industry leading additive for many years.

Rising Damp

The first sign of a problem is a waterline on internal walls affecting decorations or perished plaster and rotten skirting boards. It is a fact that any form of internal dampness is detrimental to one's health and increases the risk of developing asthma. If left it can rot floor boards and sub floor timbers including skirting boards and any timber the moisture comes in contact with. This could end up with the development of dry or wet rot. We recommend the installation of a siliconate chemical injection into the bore holes drilled along the base of the walls made along the length of the walls that require treatment. This forms a barrier against the future reoccurrence of rising damp. We use a water based injection creams which is low odour and environmentally friendly and of no harm to people.
